60th Anniversary

60 Years Serving our Community

Cairde Credit Union Ltd is celebrating 60 Years this year. What an achievement this is for our community financial institution. For six decades, we have been dedicated to providing community-focused financial services and guidance to our members.

The credit union has grown from a small group of committed individuals who believed in grass-roots, locally led financial service provider to a thriving institution with over 26,000 members, people who are from our local community.

Our Credit Union was started in Jan 1965 by twelve local visionaries who saw and understood the need for a local financial co-operative owned and controlled by its members. This idea, which first came to Ireland in 1958, was quickly recognised as a means to provide vital financial services to a large part of the community which, heretofore, found credit difficult to obtain. The support for the community was overwhelming and the Credit Union went from strength to strength. This allowed us to purchase our own premises in St Mary Street and employ paid staff to carry on the trojan work started by our pioneering members and continued by our volunteers. Due to the continued growth, expansion and success of our Credit Union, we moved to a bigger premises on Main Street in 2001.
In Jan 2023, we expanded our common bond area when we merged with Tallow Area Credit Union and Lismore and Cappoquin Credit Union. This ensured the services that we had in Dungarvan could now be offered to everyone in West Waterford.

We have enhanced our online services in addition to providing the option of a fully functioning current account with a Mastercard debit card to over 27,000 members. With five offices throughout our common bond area, our plan is to deliver a six-days per week personal service to our members. We are committed to providing financial services at locations convenient to all our members and we will continue to develop and improve our offerings.

We have lots of things planned throughout 2025 to celebrate our 60 Years. And we will let you know when these are happening.
